KUALA LUMPUR: Two individuals including a former political secretary to a former senior minister were detained by the Malaysian Corruption Prevention Commission (SPRM) on suspicion of soliciting and receiving corruption for a project worth RM80 million involving a ministry.

They were detained at 11 o'clock last night when they were asked to appear to give statements at SPRM Putrajaya officials.

Sources said the project involved printing books worth approximately RM80 million and involved a ministry in ongoing negotiations.

"The first suspect is in his 20s and is also a former political secretary to a former senior minister while the second suspect is a company owner in his late 50s.

"They are believed to be in contact with the former senior minister, requesting and receiving bribes through the second suspect company from the contractor in return for passing the book printing project through continuous negotiations," said the source.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Malaysian Corruption Prevention Commission (Operations), Datuk Sri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, when contacted, confirmed the detention.

He said the case was investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the 2009 SPRM Act.

Meanwhile, BH was understood to be the Registrar of the Putrajaya Majistret Court, Nur Adilah bt Halid this morning, confirming SPRM's request to detain the two suspects for four days starting today until September 26 2023.

Previously the media reported that a party information chairman asked the SPRM to investigate the controversy surrounding a former government minister.

He is said to have raised the issue of awarding contracts for running schools and printing J-Qaf books.

The minister was accused of obtaining funds from an individual with the rank of Datuk who abandoned all school management projects.

Radzi Jidin denies he was involved in a RM80 million fraud

Meanwhile, the former senior minister and Minister of Education in the previous government administration, in fact confirmed that the accusations contained in the text message linking him and his wife to the printing of J-Qaf books for preschools were completely untrue.

"My wife is also not a relative of the king and she has no connection or interest in the company stated in the message that was sent," he said.

It is clear that the SPRM is acting on the direction of superiors because of my statements in Parliament on Tuesday, 19 September.

According to him, it is clear that these contagious chaotic WhatsApp messages are being used solely to tarnish his reputation and image and to bully his innocent former employees.
