PKR election: Another Deputy Minister loses

JOHOR BAHRU: Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, failed to defend his Johor Bahru Branch Chief position in this PKR election.
The Johor Bahru Member of Parliament lost unexpectedly to his challenger, who is also the Johor Justice Youth Force (AMK) leader, Mohamad Taufiq Ismail.
Based on the official results released by the PKR Central Election Committee (JPP), Akmal Nasrullah obtained 587 votes compared to Mohamad Taufiq (709 votes).
The decision was signed by the Chairman of the JPP, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
A total of 1,296 ballot papers were issued, while a total of 1,789 members were eligible to vote for the branch in question in the election.
However, the decision surprised many of Akmal Nasrullah's supporters as he had previously hinted in a Facebook post that he would win the Johor Bahru Branch Head position with a simple majority of support.
Akmal, a former PKR Youth chief now the party's strategy director, was elected as the branch chief in 2014.
