PETALING JAYA: The fake news circulating on social media about the status of Johor princess Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim's marriage and her links to skincare and slimming products are not true, says the Johor Royal press office.

"The recent spate of rumours circulating on social media regarding HH Tunku Tun Aminah’s marriage to Encik Dennis Muhammad Abdullah being on the rocks are malicious and untrue.

"The Johor Royal family are upset that irresponsible parties are spreading these baseless rumours about their personal lives," the Johor Royal press office said on its Facebook page on Wednesday (Jan 30) night.

Tun Aminah via the Facebook page had said that she was also displeased with the rumours circulating on her marriage and also her alleged business dealings with skincare and slimming products.

“I have also not endorsed any products as written by these unscrupulous people who are out to use my name in order to get attention,” she was quoted as saying.

The Johor Royal press office said complaints have been lodged with Facebook, but have yet to be acted upon.

"The Johor Royal family hopes that immediate action will be taken by Facebook to take down the malicious content, in line with the company’s pledge to ensure fake news is dealt with sternly," it said.

JOHOR BARU: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has seized 407 fake branded items worth RM81,811 from four business premises in an operation here Wednesday (Jan 30).

Its enforcement chief Aris Mamat said most of the items seized were knock-offs bags of designer brands such as Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

"The operation was conducted after one week's investigation on the four businesses located in a shopping mall here.

"We have been monitoring the shopping mall since last year as several business premises selling fake items had been found there before," he said in press conference.

He added that the operation was conducted by 16 enforcement officers at about 12.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 29).

Aris said that these businesses displayed original versions of the bags but would give its customers the knock-off instead when they made their purchase.

"It is not easy to identify the fake bags as these look similar to the originals.

"From the price tags on the bags, we believe that these were sold from RM500 to RM2,000 each," he said.

Aris said that the case was being investigated under Section 8(2)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

He added that the seized items would be evaluated by experts from its trademark owner as part of the investigation.

"Some 14 cases has been reported under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 this year alone, with RM323,991 worth of items seized.

"Meanwhile, last year we have recorded 76 of such cases with seized items worth RM521,754," he said.

Federal Court: Revealing contents of police report can amount to defamation

NATION

Wednesday, 30 Jan 20195:32 PM MYT

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Federal Court reaffirmed Wednesday (Jan 30) that a person who lodges a police report and reveals its contents to the public can be held accountable for defamation.

Justice Tan Sri Azahar Mohamed said subsequent publication of the contents of a police report by its maker to the public was not protected by the defence of absolute privilege, save where the contents of the report were made in or in connection with judicial proceedings.

In his 15-page judgment, he said there was no public policy consideration to recognise that once the police report was absolutely privileged, it remained so at whatever occasion it was subsequently published.

"The right of the maker of the police report to speak and write freely to the public at large cannot override an individual's interest in protecting his reputation," said Justice Azahar, who delivered the judgment of a five-man bench in a defamation lawsuit brought against actress Zahida Mohamed Rafik.

Justice Azahar said it would result in persons irresponsibly slandering others with impunity if the defence of absolute privilege was extended to cover the subsequent publication of the contents of the police report to the world at large.

He said that in the present case, Zahida did not offer justification or explanation why it was necessary or reasonable for her to repeat the contents of the police report at a press conference.

However, he said, although the court answered the legal question pertaining to absolute privilege in favour of Zahida's former driver, Noor Azman Azemi, it would not affect the result of his appeal.

In dismissing Noor Azman's appeal with no order as to costs, Justice Azahar said no serious miscarriage of justice had occurred.

Noor Azman had appealed against the Court of Appeal decision that set aside the RM150,000 damages awarded to him by the High Court in his defamation suit against Zahida.

Noor Azman, a driver for a private company, would also have to return RM200,000 to Zahida as the Federal Court upheld a Court of Appeal decision on her counter-claim against him (Noor Azman).

Noor Azman sued Zahida in 2013 over her statement which was published in an article in a local daily on March 3, 2012, over the loss of RM200,000.

After lodging a police report against Noor Azman, Zahida was approached by reporters who enquired the reason she went to the police station.

She told the reporters that she had lodged a police report against Noor Azman and repeated the contents of the report to the reporters.

Zahida then filed a counter-claim against Noor Azman for the return of the RM200,000.

In 2015, Zahida was ordered to pay RM150,000 in damages to Noor Azman after the High Court allowed his claim for defamation against her. The High Court, however, dismissed Zahida's counter-claim.

She later won her appeal in 2017 when the Court of Appeal set aside the RM150,000 and also allowed her counter-claim to compel Noor Azman to return the RM200,000 to her, prompting him (Noor Azman) to bring the matter to the Federal Court.

A team of lawyers led by Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram represented Noor Azman while Zahida was represented by lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

Outside the court, Muhammad Shafee told reporters following the Federal Court decision that his client won her counter-claim against Noor Azman and he would have to return the RM200,000 with interest of 4% from 2013 and RM50,000 in costs, which were awarded to her by the Court of Appeal. – Bernama

AG says ex-EC members cannot escape punishment despite resignations

PETALING JAYA: Attorney-General Tommy Thomas said the outcome of the tribunal to investigate allegations of misconduct by six former Election Commission (EC) members during last year’s general election would not be academic, saying the Constitution provides for appropriate action to be taken against them based on recommendations to the Agong.
“These are very serious charges which, if established, will demonstrate personal culpability on the part of the EC members for the way in which GE-14 was organised,” Thomas said in a statement.
The tribunal has reserved judgment over the case.
It is understood that 13 charges have been framed against the six former EC members in connection with their role in preparing the redelineation report and the manner in which the May 9 polls were conducted.
The six – Othman Mahmood, Md Yusop Mansor, Abdul Aziz Khalidin, Sulaiman Narawi, Bala Singam Karupiah and Leo Chong Cheong – quit shortly after the government’s announcement that a tribunal would be set up to investigate claims of misconduct against them.
Thomas said panel members could also see their pensions and benefits withdrawn.
“The outcome of the tribunal proceedings can potentially have direct financial implications to the EC members’ entitlements to pension and other benefits, which will accrue to them on resignation, but may not be payable if they are removed,” he said.

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Jan 30 — Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd today said that police have a possible lead on a suspect armed with an automatic pistol in an alleged extortion video that was posted on social media recently.

He said investigators are pursuing the case based on the car’s registration number that has been obtained.

“Police managed to screen capture the car’s registration number from the video and have identified the type of car seen in the video.

“Based on the video’s description, we believe the location of the alleged extortion was in Kulai,” said Mohd Khalil.

He said this after launching the 14th Ops Selamat for Johor in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year celebrations at the northbound Gelang Patah R&R here today.

Several days ago, a video uploaded on Facebook showed a male suspect threatening another man seated in the driver’s seat of a car before lifting his shirt to reveal an automatic pistol.

Mohd Khalil added that until today, the police have not received any report from the victim who was threatened.

He said police investigations will also look into identifying both the suspect, victim and firearm used as seen in the video.

“We are appealing to the victim and anyone with information to come forward and lodge a police report on the matter,” he said.

On the claims by the suspect that he has links to the Kulai district police Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), Mohd Khalil said investigations are underway.

“A report has been made by an NCID officer in relation to the video due to the allegation that the suspect had links to the Kulai district NCID,” he said.

Mohd Khalil said the police have initiated investigations under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for intent to incite offence towards any class or community.

“At the same time, the police will also investigate the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 386 of the same Act for extortion,” he said.

Yesterday, Johor police said they have viewed the video footage and will investigate the incident.

The suspect in the video was featured to have brazenly flashed his firearm at the victim and claimed that he has connections with a NCID officer from the Kulai district police headquarters

SHAH ALAM, Jan 30 — The son of the slain Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu told the High Court here today that their family went through a lot of difficulties and had a challenging life after her death.

Testifying as the fourth witness in the family’s RM100 million suit against the Malaysian government, Mungunshagai Bayarjargal, who was nine at the time, said he had a tough time coping with his mother’s passing.

“It was very hurtful when people around me were always talking about her murder in Malaysia, especially in Ulaanbaatar, where the community is small and everyone knows each other. It was totally unbearable for me as a young child.

“For the first three years or so, I had to spend my three summer vacations living with relatives in the countryside just to escape the gossip over my mother’s murder in Malaysia.

“It was a very lonely, painful and sad time growing up as I remember clearly listening to my friends’ parents telling their children not to play with me just because my mother was murdered in Malaysia,” he said.

JANGAN RIAK DAN ANGKUH : TITAH SULTAN PAHANG KEPADA TENGKU MAHKOTA PAHANG BAHARU

31 years after the title was last bestowedTengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was proclaimed as the new Tengku Ampuan Pahang

Tunku Azizah bestowed a new title

Wednesday, 30 Jan 2019

PEKAN: Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar was proclaimed as the new Tengku Ampuan Pahang, 31 years after the title was last bestowed.

The proclamation was made by Sultan Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah during a ceremony, steeped in tradition at Balairung Seri, Istana Abu Bakar here.

Tunku Azizah is the fifth Tengku Ampuan Pahang of the modern Pahang sultanate.

The proclamation ceremony began when Tengku Muda Pahang Tengku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ahmad Shah read out the ascension of Tunku Azizah as decreed by Sultan Abdullah.

The instrument of proclamation was then presented to Sultan Abdullah at the Royal Dais before Tunku Azizah rose to accept it.

Tunku Azizah, who was born on Aug 5, 1960, is the fourth child of Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail and Enche’ Besar Hajah Kalsom Abdullah.

She married Sultan Abdullah, who was then the Tengku Mahkota Pahang on March 6, 1986.

The title of Tengku Ampuan Pahang is specially accorded to the consort of the reigning ruler or sultan, who is of royal blood as provided for in the Pahang State Constitution.

Although born with a golden spoon and raised in a royal family laced with protocols, it has never stopped Tunku Azizah from helping the people, regardless of race, religion and social status.

Her willingness to help, especially those affected by disasters, and sincerity have made Tunku Azizah the “People’s Pearl”, especially to the people of Pahang.

Pahang State Museum Corporation general manager Datuk Ahmad Farid Abd Jalal said Tunku Azizah never found it awkward mingling with the people, including the orang asli.

He said Tunku Azizah addresses the community as “our people” to accord them respect and equal status with that from other races in the state.

“I still remember Tunku Azizah once wanted to produce a book, titled Air Tangan Tengku Puan Pahang.

“She instructed me to ensure the orang asli villages were made the main locations and an important agenda in her tour to 11 districts in the state to collect the traditional cooking recipes of Pahang.

“She would hug and kiss them, eat the food served by them and was never picky,” he said.

Tunku Azizah’s close rapport with the orang asli could also be seen as she mingled with them after the cooking activities.

He said it was customary that Tunku Azizah be feted to a special orang asli dance welcoming visitors, called tarian sewang, apart from being served with various traditional food.

Chairman of Pekan Women’s Association Datuk Melati Ali said it had been some time since the people of Pahang had a queen.

“The proclamation of Tunku Azizah brings back the use of the title Tengku Ampuan Pahang, making her the fifth person to be bestowed with the title,” she said.

Melati said it was apt for the title to be bestowed on Tunku Azizah because of her noble personality, who is close and friendly with the people.

“We see her on the ground when the people are struck by disasters. Her concern touches the people’s heart.

“She also likes to cook and whenever invited, she will never turn you down and will share her special recipes,” she said. — Bernama

City suffer title blow at Newcastle, Solskjaer's perfect run over

Wednesday, 30 Jan 20198:11 AM MYT
by martyn herman

LONDON (Reuters) - Reigning champions Manchester City took the lead after 24 seconds but suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Tuesday as the Premier League title door swung wide open for leaders Liverpool.

City had won their previous eight games in all competitions, scoring 33 goals in the process, and looked on course to close the gap on Liverpool to one point when Sergio Aguero gave them the perfect start at St James' Park.

But Pep Guardiola's side were nowhere near their fluent best and Salomon Rondon equalised after 66 minutes before Matt Ritchie's late penalty secured victory for Newcastle.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got a reality check as his eight-game winning run in all competitions as Manchester United interim manager was ended by Burnley in a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford -- Victor Lindelof levelling for the hosts in stoppage time.

It was Cardiff's first game since a light aircraft carrying Cardiff's new signing Emiliano Sala went missing over the English Channel on Jan. 21.

The result left Cardiff third from bottom, two points ahead of Fulham who staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-2 at Craven Cottage.

Bottom side Huddersfield Town look down and out after a 1-0 home defeat by Everton in Jan Siewert's first game in charge left them 11 points adrift of the safety zone.

Manchester City have now dropped more points this season (16) than they did in the whole of last term.

After City's sticky patch at the end of the year, which allowed Liverpool into pole position in the title race, they appeared to have Juergen Klopp's side in their sights with a strong run of form but hit the buffers in the north east.

Liverpool can open a seven-point gap if they beat Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday.

"We had a chance today to reduce the lead. Tomorrow is a game for our opponent. When you are behind you have to win games and we couldn't do that," Guardiola said.

"But we are in January, there are a lot of games to play."

Solskjaer's dream run since becoming United's interim manager following Jose Mourinho's sacking looked like ending in defeat when they trailed 2-0 in the 87th minute after goals by Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood.

It was the first time United had gone behind under Solskjaer but they reacted well and Paul Pogba fired home a penalty before Lindelof scrambled home in the 92nd minute after Burnley keeper Tom Heaton had denied Alexis Sanchez with a great save.

While it was two points dropped in the race for a top-four finish, with United remaining sixth, but now two points behind Arsenal, Solskjaer drew comfort from his team's reaction.

"The comeback was brilliant, the players have been asked about how they would react if they went 1-0 or 2-0 down so I felt the comeback was fantastic," he said.

Every Premier League game began with a "minute of reflection" for Cardiff's Sala, but nowhere was the emotion stronger than in north London where, in ordinary circumstances, the 28-year-old striker would probably have made his debut.

Cardiff skipper Sol Bamba and Arsenal captain Mesut Ozil placed bunches of daffodils on the pitch before kickoff as a mark of respect while the matchday programme listed Sala with a yellow daffodil next to his name.

Away fans held up yellow signs to form a mosaic, matching the colours of Sala's previous club Nantes.

"I know we've lost a game of football but there are more important things," Cardiff boss Neil Warnock said.

"I am really proud of the players tonight."

In the 'battle' for seventh place, Wolverhampton Wanderers beat West Ham United 3-0 at Molineux with goals in the second-half from Romain Saiss and a Raul Jimenez double.

"I am so Sorry. For the mess i have caused & to those who have been affected.

"The challenges i face today, is but a fraction of accusations i have continuously faced and probably will continue facing being in the position i am in.

"To those who truly know me, thank you for standing by my side, sending me constant messages and reminding me to be strong," tulis Syed Abdullah lagi.

Let me face the wrath of my mistakes. Let me take the beating. Let me face the punishment," tegas Syed Abdullah lagi.

The photos had sent the Internet community abuzz earlier today. They depicted a woman believed to be Emma and a man who has an uncanny resemblance to the brother of a Cabinet minister.

The 26-year-old artiste whose full name is Fatimah Rohani Ismail admitted that it was her in the photos.

The photos showed her sans the headscarf and in a rather intimate position with Syed Abdullah Syed Abdul Rahman, the elder brother of Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq.

In one of the photos, Emma had her hand over Syed Abdullah’s shoulder, at a dining table.

According to a news report today, the photos had been taken sometime last week.

Both the actress and Syed Abdullah had also been seen in photos holidaying together in Japan and UAE earlier this year.

KUALA LUMPUR: Worried about controversial actress Nur Fathia Latiff’s latest alleged ‘misadventure’, drama producer Fadzil Teh has urged her to seek professional help.

In a news report today, Fadzil said he had “tried hard to believe” the short-haired woman singing karaoke with a man in a recent viral video was not his friend Fathia.

“But after looking at her Instastory videos, and after talking about it with mutual friends, I’m convinced that the woman is indeed Fathia,” said Fadzil, who is better known as Haji Zil.

“I had really hoped it was not Fathia. I’ve encouraged her all this while to shed her controversial ways and rise again in the entertainment industry.

“In fact I gave her lots of opportunities to do so, but it’s too late now, and I can’t help her any more,” he added.

Fadzil, the owner of Zeel Productions, said he felt very sorry for the 31-year-old actress.

“Fathia’s past controversies made it difficult for her to find acting offers, and here is where I lent a helping hand.

“I believe everyone deserves a second chance, but it looks like she does not love herself and finds trouble.”

Fadzil said Fathia’s family should “do something” to help overcome her problematic ways.

“She really needs help, at least at this early stage.”

Fadzil had offered Fathia a role in his telemovie Kipas Belum Mati directed by Azmi Hatta last year.

“I was happy to hear that TV stations still opened their doors for Fathia to star in dramas.

“I had hoped 2019 would be a new beginning in her career, but unfortunately she has returned to her controversial ways, and tired of helping her now."

The minute-long, viral video showed a mystery woman with short, brown hair and an uncanny resemblance to 31-year-old Fathia.

Yesterday, a popular gossip Instagram account @makcik_puaka uploaded the video which showed the woman in a black hoodie top singing a brief karaoke duet with a man at a restaurant in Shah Alam.

A check on Fathia’s Instagram account also showed her wearing a black hoodie top.

Netizens responded to the video with some commenting on the need to refrain from jumping to conclusions, but those who were convinced it was Fathia felt that she was “behaving strangely” and needed help.

Fathia has courted controversy on social media over the last couple of years, by making statements deemed offensive to certain quarters.

PETALING JAYA, Jan 29 — Cosmetics entrepreneur Nur Sajat Kamaruzzaman has spoken up after a video showing her personal assistant (PA) assaulting a pharmacy employee blew up on social media.

The PA, known as Sheryna on Instagram, was shown dragging a Guardian employee out of the store at Suria KLCC and proceeded to shout before giving the individual three hard slaps on the face.

The victim fought back and the end of the video catches a scuffle breaking out between the worker and Sheryna’s companions.

In response to the online furore over the video, Sajat took to Instagram to give further details on the situation and ultimately sided with Sheryna over the incident.

According to Sajat’s statement, the Guardian employee had apparently provoked the fight by calling Sheryna “anjing” (dog) and proceeded to openly make hurtful comments about Sajat in her PA’s presence.

“Try having good manners, surely people won’t hit you after that,” the beauty mogul wrote on Instagram.

“You want to hate on people but try taking a look at yourself first.”

The pictures in the Instagram post showed personal photos of the pharmacy worker in question which Sajat reportedly took from their Facebook and Instagram.

Sheryna followed up on her boss’ response by sharing some strong words of her own online.

“If someone calls you a dog, surely you wouldn’t just remain quiet? I don’t even know him (the worker) that well and it’s driving me nuts,” Sheryna said in a post on Instagram Stories.

The Guardian employee reported the incident to the police on January 27, the same day that the fight occurred.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad hadir launching Pelan Anti Rasuah Nasional ( Full Event)

Dr Mahathir: National Anti-Corruption Plan a warning, guide for all

The newly-launched National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) serves as a warning to all – including the prime minister and Cabinet ministers – to steer clear of graft. (Bernama photo)

By NST - January 29, 2019 @ 12:29pm

PUTRAJAYA: The newly-launched National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP) serves as a warning to all – including the prime minister and Cabinet ministers – to steer clear of graft.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the fight against corruption, as symbolised by the introduction of the NACP, will involve not only bringing offenders to justice, but ensuring past mistakes are not repeated.

“The plan is a warning to all, including myself, the ministers and others,” said Dr Mahathir after the NACP’s launch here, today.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Bakar.

Dr Mahathir vowed that strict actions would be taken against those involved in graft in the country, which includes the practice of civil servants being paid to provide special treatment to certain individuals, or looking the other way when wrongdoings are committed.

The prime minister listed the sectors which are prone to corruption – public procurement, law enforcement, political governance, corporate governance, public sector administration and the legal as well as judicial spheres.

He said if corruption in these sectors is not immediately addressed, the situation will deteriorate further.

The prime minister said that the execution of the 115 initiatives in the NACP, which aim to rid Malaysia of corruption, will need the involvement of all – from himself to kindergarten teachers.

“(You) cannot expect me alone to do it, or only the National Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC).

“And, it is also not the responsibility of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or certain agencies, to shoulder the responsibility of (ensuring corruption-free) governance and integrity.

“It is the responsibility of all quarters… to inculcate good values and to (instil) hatred towards corruption among our children.

“It will be more meaningful when (leaders such as myself) and those (in positions of authority) can achieve integrity and trustworthiness, (and an environment free of) corruption and abuse of power,” said Dr Mahathir.

He said the first move that Pakatan Harapan (PH) made when it formed the federal government was to implement mandatory asset declaration among Cabinet members.

“We won the last general election because of our cause to uphold governance and integrity.

“We don’t have other options but to give priority to governance and integrity. This is why the people have chosen the PH government,” he said.

Prime Minister’s Directive

The NACP, he added, will also introduce a Prime Minister’s Directive governing the demarcation of power between ministers and secretaries general.

“All of these are efforts to separate the government administration from the influence of politics.

“This is important to prevent any form of power abuse from happening,” said Dr Mahathir.

The prime minister also urged all in the public sector to not only execute the plan, but to ensure that the set objectives could be met.

“All quarters have a share in ensuring that the 115 initiatives become a reality.

“Civil society must also play its part by becoming the eyes and ears of the government.

“Please monitor and give feedback. Otherwise, what we hope for will not be realised,” he said, adding that the media must perform its role of imparting information that would help the people understand the aims of the NACP.

The NACP also reveals that RM1.8 trillion was lost by the government through illicit financial flows between 2005 and 2014.

Earlier, Ismail Bakar said 40 per cent of the offenders arrested by graft busters between 2011 and 2015 were civil servants.

In this respect, he said, the NACP will be the guiding document for civil servants, and will go a long way towards helping rehabilitate the rakyat’s negative perception towards those in the public sector.

Maybank Investment Bank (IB) Research noted that Android TV boxes had posed a huge problem for Pay-TV operators both in Singapore and Malaysia. “If Malaysia passes similar legislation, we believe that it would be a huge catalyst for Astro,” the research house said.

PETALING JAYA: In view of Singapore’s proposal to ban the sale of media streaming boxes in the country, analysts say Astro Malaysia Holdings

Earlier this month, Singapore’s Law Ministry said it was proposing a ban on the sale of set-top boxes or media streaming boxes with services that allow consumers access to pirated content.

According to reports, this is among proposed changes to the country’s Copyright Act, to be tabled in Parliament this year.

The amendments are the result of a three-year review and follows consultation with Singapore’s Intellectual Property Office, content providers, Pay-TV operators, and the public; and will introduce civil and criminal liabilities.

Maybank Investment Bank (IB) Research noted that Android TV boxes had posed a huge problem for Pay-TV operators both in Singapore and Malaysia.

“If Malaysia passes similar legislation, we believe that it would be a huge catalyst for Astro,” the research house said.

The research house has maintained its earnings estimates, “buy” call on the counter and target price of RM1.95.

“We continue to like Astro for its high dividend yields of over 6%, attractive valuations and potential as an merger and acquisition or privatisation candidate,” it said.

In November 2018, the Singapore High Court ordered Internet service providers to cut Internet access to Android TV boxes.

Seorang jurujual Guardian cedera selepas diserang tiga individu termasuk dua ‘mak nyah’ ketika sedang berkerja di farmasi DI KLCC

Kecoh dua mak nyah serang jurujual

ENTERTAINMENT

Awards show TV guide: Where to watch Grammys, Baftas & more

JANUARY 29, 2019 ENTERTAINMENT, MOVIES, MUSIC

BY KENNETH CHAW

We’re at the last leg of the award season race, with the Oscars wrapping things up on Feb 24.
Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on where the Oscars will be shown in Malaysia (keep checking here for updates).
Here are four other award shows to look forward to:

The 33rd Anugerah Juara Lagu

The annual song competition, which honours composers and lyricists, sees 12 songs vying for the top prize – Best Song.
What’s interesting this year is seasoned singers who have been absent from the industry are making a comeback like Siti Sarah and Akademi Fantasia’s Kaer and Amylea.
Stay tuned to find out how your favourite tunes will fare.
Anugerah Juara Lagu airs live Feb 3 at 9pm on TV3.

The 61st Grammy Awards

It’s anyone’s guess who will take home the coveted album of the year trophy this year.
Works by popular acts like Drake and Post Malone may have garnered commercial success but that doesn’t mean they’ve won over Grammy voters’ hearts. Lesser known artistes like H.E.R. have just as much a chance.
We’re also looking forward to watching Red Hot Chili Peppers, Post Malone, Camila Cabello and more perform.
The 61st Grammy Awards airs live Feb 11 at 9am, encore at 8pm, on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).

The 72nd British Academy Film Awards

This British film award is open to films from all countries except for two categories – Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer – which honours British films and filmmakers only.
This year, BlacKkKlansman, The Favourite, Green Book, Roma and A Star Is Born are up for Best Film. Could Green Book and Roma – who took home Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Foreign Language Film respectively at the recent Golden Globes – score another victory here?
The 72nd British Academy Film Awards airs Feb 11 at 5.30pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).

The Brit Awards 2019

Female artistes are leading the way at this year’s Brit Awards, with Anne-Marie, Dua Lipa and Jess Glynne earning four nominations each.
The award, which celebrates the best of British music, will feature performances by Little Mix, The 1975, Calvin Harris and more.
The Brit Awards 2019 airs Feb 21 at 7.30pm on Foxlife (Astro Ch 711).
