He was attacked at about 6pm yesterday while jogging at a park in Taman Bukit Mayang Emas here.
A struggle ensued during which Chin's son was stabbed in the right side of his stomach before the assailant escaped.
It is not known whether anything was stolen.
The victim was rushed to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for treatment.
Investigations are ongoing and police are looking for the suspect.

PETALING JAYA: The son of Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin has been stabbed in an attempted robbery.
The incident occurred around 6pm on Sunday (Jan 27), when her eldest son, aged 26, was out on a jog.
"One suspect tried to rob him and stabbed him at the right side of his stomach.
"He is currently in stable condition," said Petaling Jaya Deputy OCPD Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood Sunday night.
The robbery occurred in a park in Taman Bukit Mayang Emas here.
Investigations are currently ongoing.
