Man and ex-girlfriend found dead in car at shopping mall

KOTA KINABALU: A man and his former girlfriend were found dead inside a car at the parking lot of a shopping mall near here early Friday (Jan 25).
District police chief Asst Comm Habibi Majinji said the 23-year-old man and the 20-year-old woman died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
ACP Habibi said police rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 3am from a member of the public.
The police were alerted to the vehicle which was parked on the third floor of the shopping complex.
"We inspected the car and found the duo unconscious in a seated position. It is unclear how long they had been inside the car. The police found no elements of foul play," he said.
ACP Habibi said they were pronounced dead by medical personnel from Hospital Likas at around 5.10am.
Their bodies were sent to Hospital Queen Elizabeth 1 for a post-mortem and the autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning.
The case has been classified as sudden death.ACP Habibi advised the public not to sleep in the car with the engine on or in their parked vehicle in order to lower the risk of death
