KUALA LUMPUR: Police here are searching for an Irish man who was been missing since New Year's Day.

Steven Warde, 31, who entered Malaysia as a tourist on Nov 15, was last seen three days after Christmas.

It was learnt that he was last seen at Mercu Summer Suite along Jalan Sultan Ismail here.

His mother, Mary Morrissey, was quoted by an Irish news portal issuing a desperate appeal for help to find him.

She said it was very unusual and out of character for the "quiet and placid" man.

"He is 31-years-old and from Ireland. He has dark brown hair, brown eyes and is 5"11 (180cm).

"We have had no contact since Jan 1, 2019.

"We are extremely worried and concerned for his safety and well-being as this is out of character for Stephen," she said.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Shaharuddin Abdullah confirmed police had received a missing persons report.

He urged anyone with information to contact the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 03-2600 2222 or visit the nearest police station immediately.
