Malaysia's PM Anwar Ibrahim Arrives In New York, Meets President's of Turkiye, Iran and Sri Lanka












KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will strengthen bilateral relations with Iran in various fields for the benefit of both countries, said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The desire was expressed by the Prime Minister in a meeting with the President of Iran, Seyed Ebrahim Raisi in New York which was shared through a post on Facebook today.

"In this meeting, I expressed Malaysia's desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Iran through cooperation in the fields of economy, education, food security, science and technology as well as exploring the potential of new cooperation," he said.

According to Anwar, in the meeting, Malaysia also reiterated its commitment to hold a Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) and a Joint Economic Commission Meeting (JEC) between the two countries to refine all the potential scope of cooperation.

"Hopefully the relationship between Malaysia and Iran will continue to be strengthened for mutual benefit, God willing," said the Prime Minister.

Anwar is currently in New York to attend the 78th United Nations General Assembly.

President Raisi is the second foreign leader to hold a meeting with Anwar in New York today after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. - BERNAMA
