BALIK PULAU: A Singaporean woman was reported dead when a tour van carrying a group of tourists from the country skidded off Bukit Genting, tonight.
According to a spokesperson for the Penang Fire and Rescue Department, they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.14pm.
Upon arrival, members found that the van carrying 10 tourists from Singapore skidded and fell into a ravine about six meters (20 feet) deep.
"There are 11 victims in the van and rescue work was done with the help of some nearby PBS," he said today.
The injured victims consisted of seven women and three men, including a local van driver.
All of them were sent to Balik Pulau Hospital and Penang Hospital for further treatment.
The rescue operation was carried out by machinery from the Seri Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Station and Balik Pulau BBP.
He said, more information regarding the victim's status will be updated from time to time.
It is understood that all the victims are said to be there to enjoy dinner at a restaurant at the top of the hill and the incident is said to have happened when the van was coming down from the hill.
