The stepbrother of a four-year-old girl who drowned in an apartment swimming pool in Bangi, last September 13, has been arrested to help investigate the case.
Kajang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan said the 26-year-old suspect was arrested last Sunday.
He said, the suspect was arrested after an investigation was conducted based on CCTV footage at the scene of the incident which was recently accessed.
"The research conducted based on the CCTV footage found that, at the time of the incident, the suspect was also at the location in question.
"The suspect was seen doing something complacent while just looking at the drowning victim without doing anything to save her," he said in a statement today.
According to him, his side had previously received a report related to the incident from the Serdang Hospital medical officer who admitted the unconscious victim, on September 13.
"The investigation found that at about 3pm, the victim is believed to have drowned while taking a swim in the apartment before being taken to the clinic and later referred to Serdang Hospital.
"However, the victim was confirmed dead at around 1pm, the next day after receiving treatment.
"Initially, cases were classified as sudden death (SDR)," he said.
Mohd Zaid said the suspect was detained by members of the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) and the case was investigated in accordance with Section 31(1) of the Children Act 2001.
People with information related to the incident are asked to contact the nearby police station or the Investigating Officer, Inspector Muhammad Azrul Nizam Zainal Abidin on 016-9985730 to assist with the investigation.
