KUALA LUMPUR: Capital A Bhd's digital branch, airasia Digital Sdn Bhd, has rebranded as Move Digital Sdn Bhd thus becoming a strategic move to emphasize its commitment to travel.

Capital A's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Move's Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the rebranding marked an important part of the next phase of growth through airasia's Superapp and BigPay businesses.

"Move's travel platform business, airasia Superapp, will also have a new brand and change its name to 'airasia move' in the near future as a phase of continuous transformation," he told reporters after the announcement of Move Digital here, on Monday.

Airasia Superapp users will be able to experience seamless access to travel and financial services on one platform, with integrated financial features such as balance view, top-up and payments from BigPay while reinforcing airasia move's value proposition as the travel app of choice.

Tony said his role as executive chairman will enhance the synergy between the two businesses.

"After this change, the market can expect an enriched user experience as well as more integration of BigPay features in airasia Superapp and airasia move soon," he said.

airasia Superapp has rapidly become a one-stop travel platform offering value and convenience through a seamless end-to-end booking experience over the past two years while BigPay has further strengthened its position as an innovative financial technology provider.

In the second quarter of 2023, airasia Superapp recorded 15 million monthly active users with a 10 percent increase in new users per quarter.

BigPay recorded a 16 percent increase in card users year-on-year in the second quarter.

"Since the second quarter of 2022, this travel application has recorded positive growth in terms of profit before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) while BigPay aims to break even in 2024," he said.

Tony also announced the appointment of Nadia Omer as CEO of airasia move effective Oct 26, 2023.

Nadia will replace the Acting CEO of airasia SuperApp, Mohamad Hafidz Mohd Fadzil, who will continue to lead the business for the time being.
