ATHENS: The top Catholic leader, Pope Francis, called for the war to stop and implement disarmament at the international level.
"War only destroys communities and the environment without resolving conflicts, while diplomacy and international organizations need to be given a new lease of life and credibility," Francis said in response to a letter by the editor-in-chief of the Italian daily Corriere della Sera, according to a report by the Vatican News agency on Tuesday.
"As I have said, war now seems more and more absurd," he added.
