KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, semiconductor company Infineon Technologies (Infineon) AG decided to make an additional investment of five billion euros (RM25 billion) recently after being assured of the integrity of the Unity Government led by him.

He revealed that the company from Germany had voiced concerns about the country's political instability when it wanted to make the additional investment.

"I said, God willing, five years without interruption, we explain about the economic policy, we explain about the concept of CIVIL Malaysia, they are satisfied Alhamdulillah," he said while speaking at the Mega Perdana Talk at Ukay Perdana, near here, last night.

At the same time, Anwar said, the company also voiced its concern and asked for certainty about the existence of religious and ethnic extremist factions in the country.

"He is worried that this group will win. I said he won't win, God willing. When he answered that, he (Infeneon) brought it to a meeting five days ago in Germany," he said.

Last Thursday, Infineon announced plans to upgrade its facility in Kulim, Kedah to build the world's largest 200-millimeter (mm) silicon carbide (SiC) power fabrication plant with an additional investment of five billion euros over the next five years.

Over the past five decades, Infineon has made Malaysia an important hub in wafer fabrication in Kulim and carries out semiconductor chip packaging activities in Batu Berendam, Melaka.
