TEHRAN: Iran has officially become a member of BRICS, which is a rapidly developing economic union, said the Deputy Chief of Staff for Political Affairs of the President of Iran.
Iran is joining the BRICS group consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as a full member, Mohammad Jamshidi said on X site, IRNA reported on Thursday.
Full membership of BRICS is considered a historic achievement and a strategic breakthrough in Iran's foreign policy, Jamshidi said.
The three-day XV BRICS summit from August 22 is underway in Johannesburg, in the north-east of South Africa.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi attended the summit at the invitation of his South African counterpart Cyril Ramaphosa. - BERNAMA
