KUALA TERENGGANU: A casual task of taking out the rubbish turned tragic for a kindergarten assistant when a bicycle, recklessly thrown from the 12th floor of a People's Housing Project (PPR) here, struck her head yesterday evening.

Azuraini Yazid, 43, who works with the Community Development Department (KEMAS), was walking out from her ninth-floor unit to dispose of rubbish when the incident happened.

Her husband, Jusri Ibrahim, 48, recounted the horrifying moment, saying that his wife suddenly collapsed after being hit by the falling bicycle.

"The incident was witnessed by my daughter, who was on her way to pick up her motorcycle from the parking area.

"Residents nearby quickly rushed to help, and my wife was immediately taken to the emergency unit of Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for treatment," he said when contacted today.

Azuraini received five stitches to her head due to the injury, but she is now in stable condition and was allowed to return home this morning.

Jusri added that he had approached the bicycle's owner for clarification. However, the owner claimed that the bicycle, which belonged to his child and was placed in the corridor, had been thrown down by another resident.

Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor confirmed the incident, adding that a statement had been taken from a resident of the PPR.

"We are conducting further investigations to identify the person responsible," he said.
