WASHINGTON: US President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will issue an executive order when he takes office on Monday to allow TikTok to resume operations, while expressing his desire for the United States (US) to own a 50 percent stake in the joint venture.
TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, stopped operating for 170 million users in the United States on Sunday after a law banning the app came into effect.
The ban stemmed from concerns about the possibility of Americans' data being misused by Chinese officials. "I want the United States to have a 50 percent stake in this joint venture," Trump said on social media.
