Former national men's badminton singles player, Arif Latif, has come forward to clear his name and explain what really happened after allegedly misappropriating 70,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD) while serving as a coach in Canada.

On Monday, allegations went viral against Arif, who has switched careers to coaching, for allegedly embezzling money worth RM200,000 while serving in Canada.

Exclusively through Astro Arena and Astro Stadium, we provide an explanation given by the country's former player. "This is all a misunderstanding. There are several coaches from Canada who use my name in this regard. Then there was a misunderstanding between me and the old club. However, it has been misinterpreted by the parties there. There are coaches who are jealous of my reputation there.

"Currently, I am trying to fend off this situation with legal services there and am still in the process of gathering evidence.

"A lot of people wanted to join my training sessions and the players were starting to see the improvement, so it triggered a feeling of discomfort from the coaches in Canada who tried to stab me in the back to trigger this.

"For now, I don't care what they say. My desire is to try to improve the quality of the players under my control. Canada is still new to badminton and that is my mission to produce players who can play at the international level.

"My relationship with the players is good. Some players have contacted me asking when I will return to Canada to continue training? Otherwise, I want to go to Malaysia.

"I am trying to take this incident as a challenge. I turned out to be disappointed and tried to take this as a lesson.

"I am working with the lawyer to clear my name. I found out this situation went viral there through my players. So I am aware of what is happening at the moment."

Currently, there is still no official statement from the badminton club involved to clarify the situation that happened to Arif.
