DBKL conducts investigation into alleged RM4 million project award

SHAH ALAM: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is conducting an internal investigation into allegations of misconduct by advisory board members linked to the awarding of a RM4 million project.

Quoting a report by the New Straits Times, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif confirmed the investigation and is working closely with DBKL's integrity unit regarding the procurement of creative material production work projects worth RM4 million, which were allegedly not awarded through open tenders.

According to claims on social media, the advisory board members are said to hold positions in the companies awarded the project. In a separate development, Maimunah confirmed that she had stopped a RM7 million project linked to the same advisory board member after taking office last year.

He said he made the decision because he found that the cost was too high and the project may not comply with the proper procurement process.

"We take these allegations seriously and instruct the integrity unit to investigate the allegations of improper procurement.

"We are committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in all DBKL matters. If there is any wrongdoing, appropriate action will be taken," he told the media on Tuesday.

He said the integrity unit is in the process of obtaining facts to determine whether the governance process is followed.

Maimunah added that DBKL is also still collecting information and evidence on the matter before deciding on the next course of action, including making a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

There has been no response from the MACC on the issue.
