SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is ready to investigate if there is an element of corruption in relation to the alleged misconduct of a Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) advisory board member in relation to the award of a project worth RM4 million.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said that so far no investigation has been opened by his party regarding the allegations.
"We are ready to investigate if the findings of DBKL's internal investigation show that there are elements of corruption and abuse of power," he told Sinar Harian on Wednesday. Prior to that, the media reported that DBKL was conducting an internal investigation into the allegations.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif was reported to have said that his party is working closely with the DBKL integrity unit regarding the procurement of creative material production projects worth RM4 million, which was allegedly not awarded through an open tender.
Maimunah said she made the decision because she found that the cost was too high and the project may not comply with the proper procurement process.
It was informed that DBKL is also still collecting information and evidence on the matter before deciding on the next course of action, including making a report to the MACC.
The allegations of misconduct involving the advisory board members began to go viral on social media on Tuesday.
