ANKARA: Qatar's Foreign Ministry announced that the ceasefire agreement in Gaza will come into effect at 8.30 a.m. local time on Sunday, January 19.

The ceasefire in Gaza will begin on Sunday, January 19, at 8:30 a.m. local time, as announced by the Qatari Foreign Ministry.

The agreement aims to end more than 15 months of deadly attacks in Gaza, which have killed nearly 46,900 Palestinians and injured more than 110,600.

The ICC has issued an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on charges of war crimes in Gaza.

"As coordinated by the parties to the agreement and the mediators, the ceasefire in Gaza will begin at 8.30 am on Sunday, Jan 19 local time in Gaza," Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said in a post on platform X. He also advised residents to take precautions, be cautious and wait for instructions from official sources.

Qatar announced a three-phase ceasefire agreement on Wednesday in an effort to end more than 15 months of Israel's deadly offensive in Gaza, with the ceasefire scheduled to begin on Sunday.

According to local health authorities, since October 7, 2023, nearly 46,900 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed while more than 110,600 have been injured as a result of the war.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
