Boy Iman, three others charged with cheating over 'Hooray X Fest' issue

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor and producer, Boy Iman and three others were charged with cheating in connection with the Hooray X Fest Raya festival fiasco recently.


Boy Iman or his actual name Noruliman A Rahman, 43; Nor Azmi Jantan, 49; Norazah Sahud, 51; and Norzana Rapie@Rafie, 51; claimed trial when they were charged together at the magistrate's court here.


According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly duped 21-year-old Siti Wardina Basir out of RM1,500 in a booth sale at the Hooray X Fest near the KL World Trade Centre (WTC) at 2.34am on April 19.


The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code comes with imprisonment between one year and 10 years, and with whipping, and the offender is also liable to a fine, upon conviction.


Deputy Public Prosecutor Noraisyah Mohamed Zanyuin when prosecuted asked the court to impose RM5,000 bail against each of the accused.


However, lawyer Mohamad Syakir Mohamad Fawzi and Ernest Azad who appeared for the accused pleaded for minimum bail.


Magistrate Noorelyanna Hanim set RM3,000 bail for each of the accsued and asked them to surrender their passports to the court.


The court also fixed June 13 for mention.


On April 20, Dang Wangi police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya, said a company director was among three individuals detained in connection with the Hooray X Fest Raya festival said to have been cancelled at the eleventh hour and caused losses to traders who had signed up for it.


Noor Dellhan said six police reports have been received so far in connection with the case.


The three-day festival which was scheduled to be held at the WTC beginning yesterday (April 19) was reported to have been cancelled at the last minute, causing traders to suffer huge losses.


Several traders also took to social media to express their frustrations over the matter.
