Immigration detains 31 foreigners after raiding two entertainment centres in the capital
PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department arrested 31 foreigners suspected of committing various immigration-related offences after raiding two entertainment centres on Jalan Klang Lama here, yesterday.
Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban in a statement today said they consisted of 14 Thai nationals, seven Laotians and Vietnamese nationals, two Bangladeshis and one Singaporean, aged 23 to 35 years old.
He said 26 of the foreigners detained were women, and among the offences detected were no identification documents, overstaying, misuse of permits and other offences that violated the Immigration Act 1959 and the Immigration Act 1963.
"Based on the results of the intelligence conducted over three days, it was found that this entertainment centre has been operating for the past two years," he said, adding that the entertainment centre's modus operandi was to allow the presence of foreign women as customer servers in every business activity from 3pm to 2am.
In addition, 38 local individuals were also detained in the raid to assist with investigations.
Zakaria said that during the raid, the foreign woman was found absent-mindedly serving customers at the entertainment centre.
All foreign detainees are currently being held at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further investigation and action.
