KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan  appointed as the new Director General of Health effective April 21.

Dr Muhammad Radzi who was previously Deputy Director General of Health (Research and Technical Support) replaced Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah who retired recently.

Health Minister, Dr Zaliha Mustafa in a statement said, the appointment of Dr Muhammad Radzi is based on his extensive experience in the field of national health services.



"He has served as Head of Medical Department at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital, Kedah; Chief Medical Coordinator of Kedah State and Head of Kedah Clinical Research Center.

"Dr Muhammad Radzi has also been appointed as the Head of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Services as well as being the Chairman of the Commissioning of this field of expertise from 2013 to 2021.

"I am confident with Dr Radzi's experience, knowledge and expertise as well as credibility that he is able to give his best and be a team mate with me in ensuring that the national health reform goals and agenda are implemented comprehensively," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Commenting further, Dr Zaliha said, this is in line with the Health White Paper that is being developed so that the Malaysian civil society can continue to enjoy comprehensive, quality and sustainable health services.
