FOR the first time in 70 years, Newcastle United won their first trophy after beating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley Stadium early this morning.
The glorious victory saw Eddie Howe's men end a miserable drought to win the English League Cup (EFL) title in style, thus celebrating with their beloved supporters.
Certainly, it was an unforgettable night for local fans who had been waiting for a long time. Despite not having full possession, the Magpies had a better touch of chances than the English Premier League (EPL) leaders by creating 17 attempts in total.
It was not a perfect start for the Reds as Dan Burn's first-half header beat goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher to spark enthusiasm for Newcastle United.
Entering the second half of the game, Sweden international, Alexander Isak, added to the misery of Arne Slot's squad for the second goal, but luck was not on his side when it was ruled out by the lineman following an offside.
But, a few minutes later, he once again ensured that his powerful strike doubled the lead to 2-0 for an advantage that continued to put pressure on the opposing team.
Liverpool through sensational striker Mohamed Salah tried to set up a dangerous attack, but managed to break it and Newcastle United remained well defended until the final minute of the action.
Liverpool's consolation network came in extra time through substitute Federico Chiesa, but it was too late for them.
