KUALA SELANGOR: The remand of a man suspected of killing and burning his girlfriend who was four months pregnant in a palm oil plantation in Kampung Sungai Limau, Sungai Besar was extended for five days until Friday.
Sabak Bernam District Police Chief, Superintendent Agus Salim Mohd Alias said, permission to extend the remand against the 20-year-old suspect was issued by the Kuala Selangor Magistrate's Court on Monday.
According to him, the remand period that ended on Monday was continued because it is still under investigation according to Section 302 of the Penal Code.
"We will refer the investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office for prosecution," he said when contacted on Monday.
The suspect, who was dressed in a purple lockup, appeared in court under the strict supervision of police officers, at about 8.10 am.
Meanwhile, Agus Salim in his statement asked the public not to arbitrarily issue any unauthentic statements on social media regarding the case.
He stressed that the act of spreading speculation will only interfere with the ongoing police investigation.
"The police did not hesitate to open investigation papers on the individual in accordance with Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he stressed.
The media on Sunday reported that the police will apply for an extension of remand on Monday against the suspect in the case.
Last Thursday, the police confirmed that they had taken the statements of 10 individuals to help investigate the case.
The 21-year-old victim was previously reported to have been killed on May 22 last, believed to be because of her boyfriend who wanted to keep the pregnancy a secret after having an affair with the victim.
The victim's body was later found the next day after the police received a call from the public at about 8.15am.
