Meanwhile, Teo said the Fees (Malaysian Broadcasting Department) (Confirmation) Bill 2023, is to confirm the collection of television program fees made by the Malaysian Broadcasting Department (RTM) from 15 March 2001 to 28 February 2022 and so that it is more orderly in accordance with law.
He said, RTM has charged a fee on the television programs it owns based on the RTM Program Fee Rate approved by the Treasury on 2 February 2000 and the Cabinet Meeting on 14 March 2001.
Teo said in addition to that RTM has also generated a revenue collection of RM1,762,530 on behalf of the government starting from 15 March 2001 until 28 February 2022 after the Cabinet of Ministers agreed that the RTM Service Fee Rate for copies of television programs and service charges for providing subtitles and translations be applied to customer.
However, he said the collection for the television program was postponed after it was found that no gazette was made for the imposition of the fee and it was not in line with the 'Treasury Directive WP 10.1 Determination of Payment Rates and Government Forms'.
