MELAKA COOPERATES WITH 80 TOURISM AGENCIES IN THE PHILIPPINES
ATTRACT 120,000 TOURISTS

MELAKA, May 28 (Bernama) -- The Melaka State Government is collaborating with 80 tourism agencies from the Philippines to attract the arrival of approximately 120,000 tourists from the country next year in conjunction with the Year of Visiting Melaka 2024 (TMM 2024).
State Tourism, Heritage, Art and Culture Exco Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the collaboration was implemented through the TMM 2024 campaign under the Sales Mission program through the state Tourism Promotion Division and Tourism Malaysia last May 21 to 26.
"In a series of tours to promote TMM 2024, we have implemented this campaign in Manila and Davao, Philippines to expand promotional efforts at the level of the Southeast Asia region involving 20 delegations from Malacca including tourism sector players in the state.
"In Manila, we will work with 50 tourism agencies there while in Davao there are 30 agencies or players in the tourism industry," he told reporters here last night.
He said this after the Inauguration Ceremony of the Gegau Cultural Arts Program @ Melaka which was officiated by the Melaka State President Tun Mohd Ali Rustam at the Melaka Department of Culture and Arts (JKKN) Seri Complex here.
Abdul Razak said that through the collaboration, various attractive tourism packages will be offered by players in the tourism industry in Melaka to the tourism agencies involved to attract tourists from the country concerned.
Commenting further, he said the campaign to promote TMM 2024 in Southeast Asia will be expanded to Brunei and Indonesia in the near future in line with the state government's focus to attract more tourists from the region in addition to European and Middle Eastern countries to reach the target of 8.4 million tourists next year. .
In other developments, he said Panggung Seri Kompleks JKKN Melaka will be closed for six months starting this June to make way for maintenance work to be carried out by the Public Works Department.
"During the two years of the spread of COVID-19, the art stage was not used and there was some damage and it needs to be repaired before TMM 2024 for the safety and comfort of visitors," he said.
Earlier, he said the Gegau Cultural Art Promotion Program @ Melaka, which lasted for two days starting yesterday, aims to preserve and conserve the aesthetics of the state's traditional heritage treasures which include various aspects, thus contributing to the improvement of the economy through art and culture products.
He said, it is in line with the National Cultural Policy to raise appropriate cultural and artistic heritage assets through recognition at the national and international levels to ensure the continuity, uniqueness and authenticity of the heritage is preserved.
Various talent acquisition programs and exciting competitions are organized throughout the two days of the Gegau Cultural Enlightenment Program @ Melaka,
including Poem Champion, Open Topic Challenge, Colors of Malaysia Performance: Musical Cak Kun Cak, Miss Grand Kebaya Cilik and Cosplay Show.
