KUALA LUMPUR: Although they have been called since January this year, Telegram's management has still not cooperated with the government, and even refused to meet until today.

The Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil said, all the management of social media platforms such as Meta , TikTok and Twitter provided good cooperation, only the management of Telegram still failed to do so.

According to him, Telegram was called because his ministry received many complaints regarding misuse of the platform, including involving online fraud.

"Most of these platforms provide collaboration. We are facing problems with the Telegram side, despite being invited to meet until today, refusing to cooperate.

"We see that this will become an issue, so I have asked the Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM) to examine what action is appropriate to take.

"We receive many complaints, we don't see any seriousness on Telegram's part to cooperate," he said.

Fahmi added that the latest complaint he received was from the President of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) regarding the sale of points for doctors through the platform.

"Doctors at every need to attend conferences, seminars, courses for their career advancement.

"But it was found that there are parties trying to sell points like that.

"So we look not only at issues like this but I understand things that are not wanted such as drug sales, the spread of pornography and scams (online fraud)," he said.

He said this at a press conference after the Theme and Logo Launch Ceremony for National Day and Malaysia Day 2023 in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
