PETALING JAYA: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that five police reports have been lodged regarding an incident at an event at a Kuala Lumpur shopping mall where a video of the Jalur Gemilang without the crescent moon was shown.
Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament, said the five reports were made by representatives of the People's Justice Party (PKR) and UMNO for the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency at the Semantan Police Station last night.
"As far as I know, at least five reports have been made," he told reporters after attending a function in Bangsar South, today.
He said the report was filed so that a police investigation could be conducted in accordance with the Emblems and Names Act and the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act.
"We will leave this to the police for investigation and if the police find anything involving the law, we request that strict action be taken."
"It is necessary to understand the aspects of protocol, use, use of the Jalur Gemilang, there are rules, there are procedures. Failure to comply is an offence. We do not want anyone to take the easy way out and say this is a mistake. They should understand and know," he said.
Yesterday, a Singapore-based baby food vendor apologized after showing a video at its stall showing the Jalur Gemilang without a crescent moon.
Singapore Lactation Bakes, which participated in the baby products trade show at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, said it deeply regretted and apologised for the mistake, while acknowledging the importance of the flag as a symbol of Malaysian identity, heritage and unity.
They stated that the mistake was unintentional but deeply regrettable, adding that they accepted full responsibility.
The organisers of the TCE Baby Expo said they closed the exhibitor's booth as soon as the incident was discovered, including conducting an internal investigation.
