KULAI: In a bid to track down three individuals who allegedly robbed his jewellery kiosk in Tesco Kulai, the owner had shared a video of the act on his own Facebook page together with a RM1,000 reward.

The man, who wanted to be known as Mr Sim, said he had posted about the robbery on his personal Facebook page, claiming that robbers had carted away with almost RM20,000 worth of silver jewelleries kept in locked cases after closing hours.

In a strange turn of events, a woman, claiming to be the mother of one of the three individuals, had contacted Sim today, alerting him that her son was one of them.

Sim said he was surprised that the woman had even said that she wished for her son to be caught and sent to a correctional facility as this was not the first time he had committed a crime.

After the episode, Sim said he decided to retract the reward offer and would leave it to the police to complete their investigation.

In the Friday incident, Sim said he had wrapped up business, at around 10pm.

However, via a CCTV installed above the kiosk, he saw three suspects – two men and a woman – appearing about an hour later, breaking the locked cases and running off with the jewellery.

"I had posted the reward money as I wanted to settle the matter without involving the police but decided against it after the mother of one of the suspects had alerted me that her son was involved," he said.

"I had pulled down the reward posting but it was shared several times on different pages, which made it difficult for me to remove them. I hope the postings will be taken off to avoid any misunderstandings," he said.

Sim added that he had lodged a police report on the day of the incident.

Meanwhile, Kulai deputy police chief, Deputy Superintendent Tok Beng Yeow confirmed that investigation was ongoing and that no arrest has been made so far.
