Redelineation: A look at which seats will ‘grow', which ones will shrink

PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission's (EC) proposed redelineation will alter the size of many of the 98 affected parliament seats in terms of their number of voters.
The Petaling Jaya Utara seat, which the proposal will rename to Damansara, will see the biggest growth in terms of the percentage change in the number of voters.
The seat had 85,401 voters in the last general election in 2013 and will grow by 76.16% to 150,439 voters as of 2016 when the EC study was done.
The other Parliament seats which will see the most growth are Petaling Jaya Selatan, renamed Petaling Jaya, which will increase by 62.6%; Beruas (55.05%); Klang (40.33%); and Bukit Bintang (30.99%).
All the seats above are currently held by the Opposition.
In total, 61 of the 98 affected Parliament seats will see a growth in the number of voters, while 37 seats will shrink in terms of the numbers of voters compared with the 2013 general election.
The seat that will be most affected is the Subang seat (which is set to be renamed to Sungai Buloh), which will shrink by 42.86% or from 128,543 voters to 73,448 voters.
Other seats that will also shrink significantly are Hulu Langat (-34.86%), Lumut (-29.72%), Kapar (-26.38%), and Puchong (-22.72%).
These seats are also currently held by the Opposition.
Overall, of the 98 seats that will see changes, 36 were won in 2013 by Barisan while 62 were won by the Opposition.
The redelineation motion, once debated and passed with a simple majority in Parliament, will be gazetted upon receiving Royal assent
