KUALA LUMPUR: Three Perak DAP lawmakers have been suspended for 10 days for insulting the Dewan Rakyat Speaker and the august House.

Last week, the trio -- Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping), Ngeh Khoo Ham (DAP-Beruas) and V. Sivakumar (DAP-Batu Gajah) -- were issued letters demanding an apology for disparaging the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia and the House.

However the three lawmakers refused to do so and instead filed a motion to discuss if preventing motions and questions on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) was tantamount to contempt of Parliament.

"I would like to remind that taking inappropriate statements in the media and refusing to apologise is an act of insulting the Dewan Rakyat and the Speaker.

"As such, I am instructing Beruas, Taiping and Batu Gajah to leave the august Hall for 10 days starting today," said Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee on Monday.

On March 6, the three lawmakers accused Pandikar Amin of colluding with the ruling party to cover up corruption scandals when he did not allow their applications or emergency motions to debate the seizure of a super-yacht in Indonesia and questions related to 1MDB.

The following day, Pandikar Amin gave the trio a dressing-down for constantly challenging his discretionary powers to reject their motions.
