Liew to be proposed for ministerial post, if DAP takes Ayer Hitam and Pakatan wins GE14

KUALA LUMPUR: Liew Chin Tong (pic) will be proposed as a ministerial candidate if he wins the Ayer Hitam seat and Pakatan Harapan wins the 14th General Election, says Lim Guan Eng.

The DAP secretary-general added that it was crucial for Pakatan Harapan to capture the Ayer Hitam seat in the polls expected to be held in late April or early May.

"We will not be able to take over Putrajaya if we can't win seats like Ayer Hitam," said Lim at a press conference on Tuesday (March 20).

The Ayer Hitam seat is traditionally a Barisan Nasional stronghold and is currently held by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Lim said that Liew was taking on Dr Wee because Liew is a "DAP general".

"This is the battle for our future and that's why we sent a 'DAP general" to ensure victory.

"Liew is ready to prove himself by contesting in a dangerous seat. This is leading by example," he added.

However, Lim maintained that the decision to field a DAP heavyweight in the Ayer Hitam seat was not a "personal battle".

"It's a battle between personalities and battle for the soul of the country. That's why we are sending Liew," said Lim.

The decision to field Liew was announced last Sunday during DAP's anniversary celebration in Ayer Hitam.

This will be the first time Liew and Dr Wee will lock horns in an election.
