KUALA LUMPUR: An accountant, who is allegedly involved in room rental fraud, was nabbed in Puchong Prima, Puchong, last Saturday.
The 42-year-old woman is believed to have used online advertisements to attract victims since January.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ruslan Khalid said today that 11 reports had been lodged in Brickfields, Cheras, Puchong, Johor and Perak involving losses totalling RM25,450.
“The suspect would set a date to meet her victims. They would be ask to pay a deposit and given a date to move in.
“However, they would not be able to contact the suspect as the date approached,” said Ruslan.
He said the suspect admitted that the room that she brought victims to was her rented room.
Ruslan said the woman was remanded until Mar 22 to facilitate investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
He advised the public to be wary of such scams and urged victims to come forward. © New Straits Times Press
