GEORGE TOWN: The six policemen arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Friday have been transferred out of the George Town district police Narcotics Investigation Department.
Acting state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Roslee Chik said the transfer of the six, aged between 28 and 49, was immediate.
“Four of them who were detectives are stripped of their (detective) post as well,” he said yesterday.
The six – a sergeant, three corporals and two lance corporals – were arrested at 2am on Friday after they allegedly received a RM4,500 kickback following a drug raid.
They had earlier raided a flat unit in Majestic Heights in Paya Terubong and arrested two men who were in possession of four plastic packets of liquid believed to be ketum water.
They allegedly received the RM4,500 bribe from the two drug suspects through a civilian to settle the case.
MACC also detained the 28-year-old self-employed civilian who allegedly acted as the middleman for the payoff.
All seven were arrested under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
