Perlis mufti: 'Muslim only' launderette narrow-minded

ALOR SETAR: Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin  has joined the criticisms thrown at a launderette's "Muslims only" policy in Muar, Johor.
The Perlis mufti said "such narrow mindedness" would only lead to extremism and the incapability of people to live in a multi-racial society.
He said Islamic teachings were not meant to burden the people but to make things easier for them.
“I'm worried that someone might come up with the idea urging Muslims not to use currency notes that have been used by non-Muslims.
"These narrow-minded people may think and assume that it is unclean after they (the notes) had changed hands," he said via WhatsApp.
Mohd Asri said there could also be people who would suggest that eating utensils be separated for Muslims and non-Muslims in restaurants.
“All these narrow-mindedness will take the country down the path to extremism, and we will lose the balance to live in a multi-religious and multi-cultural society,” he said.
Mohd Asri said such assumptions and thoughts were never in the teachings of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
"I would like to advise Muslims that if the origins of a thing is clean, that there is no sign of dirt (najis), be it through its colour, smell or taste, then the thing is considered clean.
"Never easily assume and make judgements (so much so) until the "dirt" (najis) is clearly seen," he said.
He was commenting on the launderette in Muar, Johor, which displayed a signboard limiting the clientele to Muslim customers only.
