Two teens charged with murder over tahfiz fire

KUALA LUMPUR: Two teenagers have been charged with murder at the magistrate's court here in relation to a tahfiz school fire that killed 21 students and two teachers.

The teenagers, both 16, were jointly accused with 23 counts of murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

They allegedly committed the offence at Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah, Jalan Keramat Hujung, Kampung Datuk Keramat, between 4.15am and 6.45am on Sept 14.

The proceedings took place behind closed doors as the accused were minors.

Only their family members were allowed to be in the courtroom.

No pleas were recorded.

DPP Othman Abdullah prosecuted while all the accused were unrepresented.
