KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reforms Committee will summon the former Attorney General, Tan Sri Idrus Harun and the new Attorney General, Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh.
Its chairman, William Leong Jee Keen said, they will be called to provide an explanation following the decision to release without acquittal (DNAA) Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from 47 charges related to the Akalbudi Foundation, recently.
"I, as the chairman of the Special Select Committee, have issued a statement that the committee will hold proceedings and we will call both attorneys general to give an explanation.
"The media statement has been issued and we will present a report after the investigation is done," he said in the Dewan Rakyat.
He said this in response to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) who questioned the actions of the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul rejected the urgent motion of Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) to debate the issue in the Dewan Rakyat .
The answer from William Leong made Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) criticize Shahidan, questioning why he did not know the information when he was a member of the committee.
"The Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform has agreed and made a decision to call the Attorney General to explain the DNAA case.
"Arau (Shahidan) himself is one of the members of the Special Select Committee, he knows we will call the Attorney General to explain and proceedings will be carried out but he still wants to raise this issue in Parliament," he said.
Shahidan then replied: "I don't know".
