The MFL revealed that the cost of introducing VAR in the league competition in this country was high almost RM9.7 million.
TEAMS playing in the Malaysian League (M-League) can breathe a sigh of relief when the cost of the video assistant referee (VAR) system is fully borne by the Malaysian Football League (MFL).
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MFL, Datuk Stuart Ramalingam said, the league operator understands the difficulty in funding if the cost of the VAR has to be borne by each M-League team.
"Currently (it will be borne by) the MFL. The cost of VAR is not something that is easy for the team to swallow. We can see the situation and the team's finances are quite tight. The implementation of VAR will be a high cost responsibility.
"Currently, MFL is moving as best as possible to ensure that the cost is borne by MFL. If MFL has constraints at the VAR level, I will personally discuss the matter with all the team CEOs," he said on Friday.
Previously, the MFL revealed that the cost of introducing VAR in the league competition in this country was quite high, reaching RM9.7 million.
The amount is three times more expensive in the first season because the implemented VAR covers essential items such as cameras, internet networks and the need to use moving trucks.
However, the cost to apply the technology in certain venues in the following year is estimated at around RM3.2 million.
In the meantime, Stuart also hopes that there are sponsors who are willing to specifically sponsor the VAR system.
"We will look at the overall cost that we will receive from contractors, broadcasters and the provision of trucks.
"Currently the budget is RM9.7 million, but we hope it can be implemented lower. We also hope to be able to commercialize VAR and find sponsors for this VAR," he said
