WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has introduced a "Gold Card" that gives wealthy immigrants the right to settle in the US on a permanent basis, German news agency dpa reported.
"With US$5 million, this card can be yours," he said on Thursday while on the president's official plane, Air Force One.
Several videos released by US media showed Trump showing the gold card - which also featured an image of his face - to journalists. He also referred to it as the "Trump Card".
Trump said the card is expected to be introduced in less than two weeks. He had previously submitted a plan on the card in February.
This program is likely to replace the existing EB5 investor visa and also pave the way to citizenship.
The cards target the wealthy as well as highly skilled individuals who have sponsors – either companies or individuals – who are willing to pay for their visas.
