China Open Badminton: Seventh-seeded doubles snatch Tang Jie-Ee Wei's fairytale ending
The dream of the national mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, for a fairy tale ending in the BWF China Open Badminton Championships did not come true when they lost to the seventh seeded pair from France, Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue, in the semi-finals.
Seeking a first appearance in a BWF Tour Super 1000 final, the gap in quality between the country's rising doubles and their opponents was evident in the first set, where they seemed to struggle to catch their opponents' points and trailed 7-12. After that, Gicquel and Delrue continued to drive point after point before winning the first set 21-16.
The same script repeated itself in the second set, where the national pair could only compete until the score was 7-7 before agreeing to end the 38-minute battle with a 13-21 defeat.
