KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) insisted that the arrest of Badrul Hisham Shaharin or better known as Chegu Bard on Thursday was not due to the rally to be held on September 16.

According to the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) Director, Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, Chegu Bard's arrest was based on an arrest warrant issued against him by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court on September 13.

"On 14 September 2023, at 8.00 pm, the Royal Malaysian Police have successfully arrested Badrul Hisham Shaharin or Chegu Bard at Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur.

"The arrest was made after obtaining an arrest warrant for Chegu Bard on 13 September 2023 from the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court due to his refusal to cooperate with the police after an investigation order under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code was issued against him on 9 July 2023," he explained. in a media statement on Thursday.

Shuhaily insisted, the arrest of Chegu Bard has nothing to do with the Save Malaysia Rally held on September 16.

"PDRM would like to emphasize that the arrest of Chegu Bard has nothing to do with the gathering that will be held by a group of individuals on 16 September 2023.

"PDRM urges the public to be prudent users of social media and not to use the platforms involved in ways that could cause public panic and threaten the harmony of the country.

"Strict action without compromise will be taken against any individual who intentionally threatens public order and safety," he explained further.

Commenting further, Shuhaily explained, Chegu Bard was investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

It follows his statement on the issue of Malaysia-Indonesia border conflict negotiations and claims that the Prime Minister has handed Ambalat to Indonesia.

"On 21 June 2023, the Royal Malaysian Police opened investigation papers on Chegu Bard being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Apart from that, PDRM also has five investigation papers that require the presence of Chegu Bard to assist in the investigation. In all these cases he also refuses to cooperate," he said.
