Cops to be stationed at hot spots in the city

KUALA LUMPUR: City police will station officers at designated hot spots in public housing in an effort to bring down the crime rate in the area.

Police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim said 12 housing areas had been chosen to undergo this new initiative, with a review in three months time.

"Phase one will have one officer and one rank and file policeman attached to each of the the 12 identified areas.

“They will work with the people there and act as a sort of "father," he said during the launch at the Sri Selangor Flats here on Saturday (Nov 25).

He added that he would keep track of the progress of each hotspot and perform a review in three months time.

Another 12 more housing projects would be chosen for phase two.

The Sri Selangor Flats was chosen as the first housing projects to join the initiative due to its close vicinity to the state police headquarters. He said there was a rise in drug cases within public housing projects in the city, and hopefully the initiative would reduce the drug-related offences
