ALOR SETAR: Kedah Opposition leader Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah of PAS has joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

Amiruddin submitted his membership form to Pribumi deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir on Sunday (Nov 26).

"PAS’ action of not joining Pakatan Harapan led me to take this decision.

"Why did PAS not join Pakatan Harapan is immaterial now,” he said at a press conference here.

On his status as the Opposition leader, Amiruddin said PAS has the most number of seats in the state assembly and has to decide on the matter.

"Previously I have made known that I want to relinquish my position as the Opposition leader but I was persuaded to stay on," he said.

Mukhriz said the party welcomed the move by Amiruddin.

On seat allocation, he said no announcement would be made until everything was finalised by the top leadership.
