After Muar 7, now 8 Sungai Buloh policemen transferred for partying in karaoke joint

KUALA LUMPUR: Just over a month after seven policemen were transferred after being caught partying at an entertainment outlet in Muar, eight policemen from Selangor on Thursday faced the same fate over a similar offence.
The eight, all of whom were attached to the Sungai Buloh police headquarters, have been transferred after being nabbed by federal Integrity and Standards Compliance Department policemen at a karaoke outlet in Damansara Intan a week ago.
The men, aged between 26 and 47, were found with six women and another man in a VIP room at the entertainment outlet.
Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor confirmed the matter.
“They have on their own accord breached police procedures... they need to face the consequences. I want to warn others, whatever breaches in discipline, they will face the music,” he said.
Since 2014, the Inspector-General of Police’s Standing Orders prohibits policemen from visiting entertainment outlets except on official duty.
On Thursday, a transfer order was issued by Bukit Aman for the immediate transfer of the eight policemen.
They have been stripped of their detective statuses and have been given up to 14 days to report to their new units.
Sources said the eight have been transferred to various units so as to “break them up as a group”. Among the new postings for the eight are the Federal Reserve Unit and the General Operations Force.
Early last month, seven policemen were transferred out of their postings in Muar to the Johor police headquarters after an eight-second video clip showing them partying with a suspected illegal gambling kingpin went viral on social media.
Investigation papers were also opened against them amidst allegations that they were linked to illegal gambling operations in the area. © New Straits Times
