KUALA LUMPUR: Time to start planning your holidays Malaysians, for there will be a bumper crop of long weekends in 2018.

In January, it’s a long weekend right off the bat for most of Malaysia, with the exception of Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis, Terengganu and Johor, as New Year’s Day is on Monday. Chinese New Year meanwhile will fall on Feb 16 (Friday).

March will be a wonderful month for Johoreans, Sabahans and Sarawakians. The Sultan of Johor’s birthday will fall on March 23 (Friday), while those in Sabah and Sarawak can look forward to Good Friday on March 30.

In June, Sarawak will celebrate Gawai on the first Friday of the month, while Hari Raya is on the 15th (Friday).

Merdeka day (Aug 31) is a Friday while Malaysia Day (Sept 16) is a Sunday.

Melaka will celebrate its governor’s birthday on Oct 12 (Friday). The state of Perak will have Nov 2 (Friday) off to mark the Sultan of Perak’s birthday while Kelantan celebrates the Sultan of Kelantan’s birthday on Nov 12 (Monday). © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
