Two tonnes of fresh fish were all snapped up in under an hour at Jamal's FIsh Market

Hundreds queue up to buy produce at Jamal's 'cheap fish market'
SHAH ALAM: A drizzle failed to deter hundreds of people from queuing up to buy produce that were being sold at the weekly "cheap fish market" mooted by Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos here.

A large crowd gathered at the night market area near the Seksyen 7 flats here as early as 3.30pm Thursday when it started to drizzle.
Seafood products such as kembung (Indian mackerel), cencaru (hardtail scad), sardine, mabong (short mackerel) were all sold at RM5 per kg while processed chicken at RM10 per bird.
However, Jamal was not present at the market.
"The previous one was held in Seksyen 24 where five tonnes of fish and two tonnes of processed chicken were sold out within hours.
"Feedback from the grassroots have been good because the people are able to buy the fresh food items at cheaper prices and we hope to continue with this initiative in Shah Alam every month.
"For today, more than two tonnes of fresh fish were all snapped up in under an hour," he said when met here Thursday.
Azhari, who is also Shah Alam Umno division chief, said the fact that fish could be sold cheaply was proof that middlemen have been taking advantage by selling the food items at high prices.
"And who are these middlemen? It is for the people to see for real who is really helping the needy group in our society.
"The Pakatan Harapan leaders are only capable of talking about helping the people. But for us in Barisan, we go down to the field and do it," he said.
Other than fresh fish and processed chicken, the market also sold cooking gas at RM20 each and various fruits and vegetables at lower prices.
When asked on a local leader who called for action to be taken against the "cheap fish market", Azhari said the initiative was only meant to help the people without breaking any law.
"We cannot deny that we faced difficulties when we wanted to offer the cheap fish market in Selangor since we are not the state government.
"But this shouldn't stop as it benefits the people," he said, adding that the market would continue to be set up in Shah Alam should Barisan wrest back the parliamentary and state seats in Selangor in GE14
