Five family members of the suspect in the Ulu Tiram Police Station attack to be charged


The five family members of the man who attacked the Ulu Tiram Police Station, here, on May 17, arrived at the Johor Bahru Court Complex at 9am this morning.


The five of them were closely guarded by almost 30 policemen.


It is understood that they will face several charges including Section 130J (1) (a) of the Penal Code.


Earlier, around the Johor Bahru High Court Complex was seen to be tightly guarded by dozens of policemen since 7am this morning.


On May 24, all five family members of the male who attacked the Ulu Tiram Police Station were reportedly detained and investigated under the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA), after their remand period ended on the same day.


All of them consisting of the mother, father, brother, sister and younger sister of the 21-year-old attacker were detained under SOSMA for 28 days.

The Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, is reported to have said that preliminary investigations revealed that the family carried radical beliefs.

On May 17, seven individuals, including five members of the suspect's family aged between 19 and 62, were arrested to assist in the investigation of the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code.


Two students of a higher education institution (IPT) were also reportedly remanded after being suspected of being involved in the attack on the same day, after the attack.


However, the two IPT students were released unconditionally after the investigation was completed, last month.



In the attack at 2.54am on May 17, two policemen, the late Constable Ahmad Azza Fahmi Azhar, 22, and the late Constable Muhamad Syafiq Ahmad Said, 24, were killed while the 21-year-old suspect was shot dead.




The tragedy also injured Corporal Mohd Hasif Roslan, 38, who was shot in the shoulder and hip.
