Ramlan Harun was appointed the new SPR Chairman

Ramlan Harun was appointed as the new Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), effective today.

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun was appointed as the new Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), effective today.

According to the Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali, Ramlan's appointment was approved by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.

"Pleased to be informed that in accordance with Article 114(1) of the Federal Constitution, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has approved the appointment of Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun as Chairman of the EC.

"This appointment is effective from June 26, 2024," he said in a statement today.

Ramlan, who is also the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Rural Development, holds a Master's Degree in Land Resource Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a Bachelor's Degree in Housing and Building Planning from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

He also holds a Diploma in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) and began serving as Assistant Director at the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT).

Ramlan's appointment as the new EC Chairman is to replace Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh who retired on May 9 after four years leading the commission.
