KUALA LUMPUR: Police uncovered suspected prostitution activities at a budget hotel in Bukit Bintang, on Saturday.

According to Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya, the raid was carried out at 8.30pm by the Criminal Investigation Division of Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters after intelligence was made.

"As a result of the raid, the police arrested 16 foreign women from a country on the African continent aged between 21 and 40 years.

"The police also confiscated 40 condoms, 10 tubes of lubricating gel, seven tissue rolls, 14 mobile phones and RM800 in cash.

"They offer  their services for  RM100 to customers," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Noor Dellhan said, as a result of the preliminary investigation, it was found that the prostitution activities involved foreigners at a budget hotel that was rented at a rate of RM110 a day.

"They will find clients on the side of the road and then take them to hotel rooms for sex service activities.

"All individuals arrested will be remanded on June 23 for the purpose of further investigation and the case will be investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code and Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.

According to Noor Dellhan, the foreign women will also move from one budget hotel to another to avoid their activities being detected by the authorities.

All of them also, he explained, do not have travel documents while their customers consist of foreigners and locals.

Therefore, Noor Dellhan called on the public to cooperate by providing information about any illegal activities.

Any information can be channeled to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at 03-26002222 or any nearby police station.
