KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Immigration Department will cooperate fully transparently and fairly with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), regarding the incident of a director of a foreign worker company who claimed to have been beaten by an Immigration officer, while detained in the department's enforcement operation recently.

Director General of Immigration Datuk Ruslin Jusoh in a statement yesterday informed that, at the same time, the department is waiting for a complete report from the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Immigration and will further investigate the allegations.

"If it is found that there is a violation of SOP (standard operating procedure) or abuse of power by the officers involved, strict action and punishment will be taken.

"Immigration takes serious cases of abuse of power involving officers and will not compromise on any of its officers who violate SOPs, thereby tarnishing the good name and image of the department," he said.

The statement was issued by the department, following a news portal that reported a director of a foreign worker company believed to be involved in masterminding a beggar syndicate, claimed to have been beaten by Immigration officers while detained in an enforcement operation on 25 June.
